Who thought we would be celebrating music this year? Let us remember, a few weeks ago, we were all holed up at home, completely freaked out and all to be careful to avoid the Coronavirus. Three months later, when we no longer thought of seeing a human being again one day, or at least not in the same room as us, here we are on the eve of the Fête de la musique, as if nothing had happened, or almost.
If the celebrations have been maintained, it is difficult to plan for it. Do you see yourself singing We are the champions, a plastic cup filled with hot beer in your hand, in front of the bar in your neighborhood? Or slam in the audience of the delirious crowd in the square of your village? Even if we wanted to, it would not be possible anyway, social distancing requires. This year the Fête de la musique will take place but it will not have the same face as in previous years … Let’s go back in time to understand what this June 21, 2020 has in store for us.
Public, but (very) limited
This is the big news for a world of culture and entertainment affected by the arrival of covid-19 in the world: concerts may take place on June 21, but under well-defined conditions. In particular, social distancing must be respected (with seats prohibited, for example), that no crowd can form (no pit, therefore) and that all health rules are applied.
Online initiatives
In many African countries, some promoters of shows have planned to invite music lovers to celebrate music digitally. In Benin, for example, the government, through the National Agency for Cultural and Sports Events and Official Manifestations, is organizing a show that the general public can follow on the national channel and on social networks.
Among the many online initiatives to honor music in Africa, a concert was also organized by the ORANGE network and the DBM chain. A concert which will also be broadcast on social networks and in which many African artists will participate.
In the hospital
Inevitably, after such a crisis, it was necessary to mark the blow. And for Music Festival 2020, caregivers will be honored. Concerts reserved for patients, nursing staff and their families will be organized in hospitals.
And on the streets?
We believe that Africans may prefer the street to other alternatives. The enthusiasts will descend with their instrument and fifteen fifteen people will stay in front of a few minutes.
Either way, THE FEAST WILL TAKE PLACE.
Good music festival to all !
